This popular walking trail and hiking path is famous for its grand old chestnut trees and follows the foot of Mount Rigi from the south side to the north. The entire path leads from Brunnen along Lake Lucerne to Immensee on the banks of Lake Zug, circling around the world famous «Queen of the Mountains». Along the entire trail there are numerous scenic vantage points and beautiful spots in nature.
We recommend the 10:12 boat departure from Lucerne, which arrives at Gersau at 11:45.
The nature walk from Gersau to Vitznau will take about 2.5 hours. The first part of the walking trail takes you through fields and forests. After a while you will reach the «Menschenacher'' vantage point at an altitude of 750 m above sea level. From this beautiful panoramic spot you will have great views of the lake and the surrounding scenery, including many of the most famous peaks in the region.
After the lookout, the trail features several inclines, taking you past Alpine flora and fauna. Once you reach Unterlinden the alignment is once again on level terrain, before entering Vitznau on the paved Gotthardstrasse. For this final stretch, you will be walking right along the banks of the lake, with fine views to the west. From Vitznau your most convenient connection back to Lucerne will be the 15:09 boat departure.

Yes, it is possible to make this round-trip during all four seasons. Our boats operate 365 days a year on Lake Lucerne.
The walking trail from Gersau to Vitznau is not ideally suited for either wheelchairs or buggies, as part of the alignment is not paved and only on natural terrain. Our ships are fully accessible though for both wheelchairs and buggies and there are plenty of other suitable itineraries on and around Lake Lucerne that are barrier-free.
It is possible to purchase drinks and small snacks on all of our ships, while our larger vessels even offer a full dining service in the attractive onboard restaurants. Enjoy typical Swiss hospitality as you gently glide over the lake! You will also find pleasant countryside restaurants and cafes in both Gersau and Vitznau. For the actual walk through nature between Gersau and Vitznau, we recommend that you bring along some bottles of water.
